Joey Wins…. AGAIN!!!

 

This seems to be an annual title, and I promise I never recycle, though I should to save the time.  There are guarenttees in life in taxes, death and Joey wining the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest.  Someday he will be unseated, but not this year and probably not next, but someday he will walk away and let someone else ire my wife.

Never does he disappoint, not like your favortie team, does he ever lose.  He is one of the greatest at what he does in out modern era.  Ali lost, Tyson lost, GSP lost and even Silva has lost.  Few can stay undeafeated and those that knock them down become things of legend.  Chestnut took his torch by beating Kobayashi in a tight contest in 2007.  Unlike James “Buster” Douglas who could not handle the spotlight of unseating a champion, Chestnut has gone on to win 6 straight titles and this year tied his own world record.

And still CHAMPION!!!!!

The Bulls won 3 in a row twice but never got four, same with the Lakers.  The Yankees and Celtics have eclipsed that mark but not in a dogs age.  The only champion strong enough in current sports to hold back-to-back-to-back-to-back titles is Joey Chestnut.

His biggest rival sat out of the competition over a contract dispute.  Frankly if you have come in second 3 years running you don’t have a bartering chip, maybe next year he will smarten up, if not we have the Great American Hope to keep taken down the dogs in NYC.

4th of July Just won’t be the same this year

The Forth just got a little less festive.  America’s favorite forgein import for our most American holiday won’t be participating in the great hotdog eat-off.

The Great Kobayashi will not compete due to a rumored contract dispute with Nathan’s.

This is like learning Santa is not real.

Joey Chestnut will clearly walk away from the pigout with another belt, but without beating the best competition it isn’t really just the same.  I will root for Joey like always, but his biggest”little” competition will sorely be missed.

Hopefully this all gets ironed out soon so we will have what everyone tunes in for, Chestnut v Kobayashi.

Make this right Nathan’s.

Back-to-Back-to-Back

America has had some great champions:

Mary Lou defied the odds.

US Hockey conquered the unbeatables.

Rocky beat the big Russian in part IV.

But no champion has stood the test of time and beat the Mighty Japanese eating  machine Takeru Kobayashi who dominated the eating world for 6 straight years.

In 2007 they thought it was a fluke, in 2008 he flexed his jaw muscles, and now in 2009 Joey Chestnut as been crowned King.  There is now no question he is the Ultimate Eater.  This is what real competition is about.  Not some baseball game between over paid morons or a boring round of PGA golf… I think some guys may also be riding bikes through the hill of France.  The Nathan’s Hot Dog Challenge is where the excitement is at today, sadly it only lasts 10-minutes.
