Flashback Review: G.O.D. – A Warrior’s Journey

Everything that was wrong with Game of Death is made right with A Warriors Journey. John Little, one of, if not, the premier historians on Bruce Lee takes a look into the life of Bruce Lee prior to his death.

While Little covers many points of Lee’s life, philosophy and films, what really makes this documentary different from all the rest is the presentation of Game of Death. With the help of Lee’s notes and unused film Little brings us the intended vision of Bruce Lee.

Gone is the crazy and confusing story line of Bruce Li having a face transplant to look like Lee.  Brought back is the films original spirit, to be almost a gospel of philosophy for Jeet Kune Do.  Showcasing his bloosoming technique, or lack there of, against the traditional and strict forms of martial arts.  What once was a 15 minute segment in the Tower, now has been expanded to nearly 45 minutes.

Included is the filmed cast of:

  • Bruce Lee as “Hai Tien”
  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as “Mantis(5th Floor Guardian)”
  • James Tien as “Tien”
  • Chieh Yuan as “Chieh”
  • Dan Inosanto as “3rd Floor Guardian”
  • Han-Jae Ji as “4th Floor Guardian”
And considered their roles are the intended cast of:
  • George Lazenby
  • Robert Wall
  • Robert Baker
  • Chuck Norris
  • Jackie Chan
  • Sammo Hung
  • Jim Kelly
  • Bolo Yeung
  • Lam Ching Ying
  • Lee Kwan
  • Kien Shih
  • Han Yin-chieh
  • Yuen Biao
  • Carter Wong

If you have seen and hated Game of Death then you need to consider this documentary/film montage of what would have clearly been a Bruce Lee classic.
