You many be thinking to yourself, does this have anything to do with the ominous Spaghetti Incident oft referred to but never fully explained in the Calvin & Hobbes series, you may think that but you would be wrong.
Last week Ileana Bordonaro, a permanent substitute teacher for the Lawrence, MA school system was fired for allowing her Italian class to share spaghetti and lasagna dishes with fellow students.
The school has since seen an outpour of support from her students who over packed the Committee meeting and also support from people who are just outraged over such a foolish dismissal. The school has since back-peddled on it’s decision and offered to rehire Ms Bordonaro, but she has yet to make a decision whether or not to return. In such a rough economy she should hold out for a bit more then a rehire into her permanent substitute teaching position, she should demand a full time position.
So when you start to think your local school system is bad, imagine that you could be in one of the Commonwealth’s roughest cities watching a quality teacher being let go for encouraging her students to enjoy the culture of their subject. I would love to know what was so horrible about inviting the students to share food.
In the words of the great Ron White, “You can’t fix stupid.”
